In the fireside chat, Xiangxian Wang will discuss the social change in fathers’ involvement in parenting in China, including the exploration on the prototype of Confucian fatherhood, the modern fatherhood constructed by the factory law during 1930s and the current transformation of fatherhood from the absent to caring in the 21st century. 

Lynn Jamieson will chair the fireside chat, and Jingyu Mao will be a discussant.

Speaker Bios:

Xiangxian Wang is Professor in Sociology at University of Shandong. Her current research is focused on the construction of fatherhood in China. 

Jingyu Mao is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests include emotions; intimacy; migration and work; gender and ethnicity; rural-urban inequality, and contemporary China. She is the author of the forthcoming book Intimacy as a Lens on Work and Migration: the Experiences of Ethnic Performers in Southwest China (Bristol University Press).

Lynn Jamieson is Professor of Sociology of Families and Relationships, and a founding co-director of CRFR.
