Description
Join us in conversation with Setareh Ghandehari from Detention Watch Network in the United States to reflect on the role of immigration detention in authoritarian times and how people, organisations and movements continue to resist violent border controls.
Setareh Ghandehari is the Advocacy Director at Detention Watch Network (DWN) where she works alongside other DWN staff and members to abolish immigration detention in the United States. She has been involved in social justice movements for over 20 years.
There will be lots of time for Q&A and discussion. Please come with questions and reflections about what lessons we can learn in the UK and elsewhere from our comrades in the US.
This online talk is co-hosted by the Detention Forum, Edinburgh University’s Detention Matters Project (Ċetta Mainwaring, Andonea Dickson and Thom Tyerman), and the Citizenship and Migration Research Network (CMRN).
Attendees will be emailed a link to the Microsoft Teams meeting prior to the event.
