Political and Legal Anthropology working group
Venue
CMB Room 3.15Description
We are living through challenging times when it seems like the paradigms through which we are thinking and analysing the political realm need to be rethought. We invite you to take part in our Political Anthropology Working Group to read think and analyse these issues together. Although the title reflects our interest in Anthropology we welcome scholars and students from other subject areas.
The aim of the group is to create an informal space of exchange; to read and challenge academic text; to share and get feedback on our work; and to host external prominent scholars to converse with us.
Topics that we wish to explore can be:
- Reflecting on what is the political?
- Exploring aspects of political research and political writing.
- Re-examining the intersection of politics with gender, sexuality, kinship, race, nationalism, and religion.
- Re-examining political concepts and political players.
This list is open to changes and suggestions and will be discussed in our first meeting on 11 September at 1pm room 3.15.
The reading for the first week is Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s (1997) "Paranoid Reading and Reparative Reading; or, You’re So Paranoid, You Probably Think This Introduction is About You "
Further readings will be discussed in the first meeting.
If you are interested please send an email to Moyukh.Chatterjee@ed.ac.uk or livnat.decleve@ed.ac.uk.
