Description

This webinar will bring together Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) UK election auditors with two academics from Wales and Scotland to discuss the current challenges in relation to poverty and flourishing.

Dr Richard Machin, Nottingham Trent University, will open the session with a reflection on his audit of the Labour manifesto and how the Labour government has performed in relation to social security policy since the election. This will be followed by presentations by Dr Hayley Bennett, University of Edinburgh (and Co-I of the Safety Nets project project) and Prof Rod Hick, University of Cardiff (and Co-I of the Safety Nets project)  - who will respectively discuss the social security policy challenges in Scotland and Wales and what we might hope to see in the election manifestos to address poverty and social security provision in Wales and Scotland.

The session will be concluded by a Q&A discussion with presenters. Further information the ASAP UKs Poverty Audit of the 2024 election manifestos can be found at: https://www.ukpovertyaudit.org

Chaired by Lee Gregory, University of Nottingham.
