I am completing my PhD through The Quality of Women’s Representation (QUALREP) UKRI/ERC Synergy Grant, a five-year, five-country project, across Belgium; Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. It researches questions of sex, gender, intersectionality, and inclusion to address the ‘poverty of women’s representation’; to strengthen democratic institutions, and to enhance legitimacy.
My PhD research focuses on the intersection of care and democracy, drawing upon feminist theories of political representation and care ethics literature, to explore the political representation and participation of carers in Scotland. My study aims to illuminate the political perspectives of those with disproportionate caring responsibilities and re-imagine caring democratic designs and deliberative practices that can institute these perspectives into policy.
My research interests include:
- Feminist Political Theory and Gendered Power Structures
- Feminist Epistemologies and Research Methodologies
- Women’s Political Representation and Participation
- Gender Equality
- Care Ethics, Justice, and Political Theory
- Global Political Economy of Care
