Background

Dr Cat Acheson (she/her) is a postdoctoral Research Associate on the Wellcome-funded project ‘After the Single Use: Rethinking Plastics in Healthcare’. Cat’s work explores global efforts to transition away from single-use and toxic plastics in healthcare, with a focus on the role of intergovernmental organisations and civil society. She is currently conducting research on the Global Plastics Treaty negotiations. 

Cat completed her PhD at the University of East Anglia in 2024, in the Science, Society and Sustainability (3S) research group in the School of Environmental Sciences. She has a background in intersectional climate justice and grassroots innovations. 

Cat holds a Masters' degree in Environment, Culture and Communication from the University of Glasgow, and an MA Hons. degree in English Literature from the University of Glasgow. She was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2023. Cat has also previously worked at Zero Waste Scotland and for the University of London's sustainability team.
