Background

Currently, I am a Social Work lecturer at the School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Edinburgh (UoE). I am a researcher and academic with experience at Edinburgh Napier University and Makerere University in Uganda. I hold a PhD in Social Work from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Social Work and Human Rights from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

My research focuses on the health and human rights of forced migrants and refugees. My recent work explores ethical approaches to refugee research; the intersections of climate change and migration, gender-based violence, adolescent reproductive health, and the impacts of COVID-19 on refugee populations. Using interdisciplinary, mixed-methods approaches, I aim to center and elevate the lived experiences and voices of marginalised communities.

I’ve collaborated on global health projects in LMICs, particularly around access to HIV/AIDS and TB care, and am a member of the Global Refugee Health Research Network. I also recently led a consultancy evaluating maternal health advocacy efforts in Uganda.

I am currently a guest editor for a Special Issue on Health and Migration Challenges for Forced Migrants in the Journal of Social Sciences.

I welcome PhD students interested in interdisciplinary research on refugee health and human rights, forced migration, and social work and social justice.
