Research interests
Within cultural sociology and the sociology of the arts, my PhD research investigates the performance of creativity by self-taught artists in post-socialist China. My other concluded research projects include an investigation of the discourse of "entertainers' morality" (yide) in modern China (University of Cambridge, 2022) and the transition of artistic identity (Cultural Sociology, 2025). I am also interested in art market research and the history and de-colonialisation of the sociology of the arts.
I am currently member of the ASA, BSA, and The International Visual Sociology Association (IVSA). I serve as the PGR Representative at the Sociology of the Arts Study Group of the BSA and organised two PGR Forum Regional Events in this capacity in 2024 and 2025 in succession.
I occasionally write essays and exhibition reviews on popular magazines, translate academic articles, and do public lecturing. I also worked as an intern at several art institutions and programmes in China, such as the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) and the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal (OCAT), among others.
