Politics and political violence

Linking questions about the nature of democracy, identity and conflict our research shows how anthropology can take a central role in understanding other people's politics.

Our fieldwork takes us from the UN to anti-torture organisations and from the political practices of peace activists to those of the educated unemployed.

We pay special attention to the state and political violence, and have made particular contributions to the anthropology of law, torture and human rights.
